Love - The Greatest Nutrient of All

The human body thrives on love.

Safety, peace, calm, touch, understanding, joy, laughter, rest and restore, nourishment, and my focus …..movement are all aspects of love. We all naturally know they feel good to experience.

They are all very simple physical experiences and yet most of us are starving for this to be part of our reality. Societal/ individual circumstances often demand we step away from safety, calm and rest…..and sometimes we must, so how do we get to experience the benefits of love? Really, we have to do it for ourselves.

In practice when I talk about love in our bodies most people jump to sex. And yes, sex can be an amazing experience of love with our bodies, but that’s not the only thing. And not always available or an experience of love.

But, what it does tell me ……is that somewhere we understand that love has a sensorial component.

Our bodies are sensorial, we experience the world through our senses, and we express ourselves through our senses too. It is at this level where the love is found in the body. The problem is most of us are too in our heads, stressed and we miss the simplicity of being aware of our senses.

Let me give you an example….some of my favourite love nutrients are;

  • Petrichor – smell joy

  • Diving under waves or mermaiding in the shallows – joyful movement

  • Flowers – visual and smell joy

  • Cuddles – touch & calm

  • Pressure on my body - eg heavy blankets/ pillows, loved ones – touch & calm

  • Nature walking – movement & nourishment

  • Reading a book tucked up in bed – peace & rest.

Now my dear friend Emma (Designer- artist- extraordinaire) is totally different to me. I haven’t asked her, but, I know hers are different, she loves the brilliance of design and imagery. She is stylish and curates beautiful things. And we can meet on the nature walk and appreciate the visual brilliance of the forest and we both love a cup of tea and reading but beaching probably isn’t for her and I really have zero appreciation for style. I touch people for a living and have a family of touchers, but, that would stress her. And that’s the point…not to stress Em, but that you have your own unique sensorial nature through which you experience the world.

And that you-ness is part of the love.

Not only, is it important that we experience the love that all human bodies thrive, but also that we know what the individual version of that looks like for us. And this comes back to knowing ourselves, our own skill mastery and cultivating our own environments…..

So what do these things look like for you?

Safety, peace, calm, touch, understanding, joy, laughter, rest and restore, nourishment and movement.

X Carla
